Stevens Traded

Seldom used and free agent signee LW Kevin Stevens today was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for AHL defenseman John Slaney. Stevens has had interest from Pittsburgh since the offseason and was expendable by the Flyers. Defenseman John Slaney, leading AHL scoring defenseman, was assigned to the Phantoms...

Ramsay Gets FIRED!!!

Apparently the 5-1 loss to Detroit was the breaking point for Flyers president Bob Clarke. The Flyers whipping contributed to their lackluster 12-12 record as well as this morning's decision that it's time to move on. Coach Craig Ramsay, appointed head coach last season in place of the ailing Roger Nielson, was fired today. Finally, fan favorite, Bill Barber, famed coach of the Phantoms, will take charge as the next Flyers coach - hopefully he'll last multiple seasons.

Jones Retires

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Keith Jones, acquired back in 1998 from Colorado in exchange for Shjon Podein, has announced his retirement from hockey. Jones has been fighting injuries the past few seasons, missing a big chunk of the season last year with a torn ACL, and missing most of this current season with knee problems and a concussion.

LeClair Out for Six

No Lindros, an injured Recchi, winless streak of four and now...Flyers star LW John LeClair will be out for six weeks after back surgery. Hopefully he'll be ready in December. He has a disk problem and has been getting shots to help the pain for the past while.

Also today, the Flyers recalled LW Mark Greig from the Phantoms as well as goaltender Roman Cechmanek, sending Oullet down in his stead for conditioning.

Eaton to Predators

Flyers today have traded defenseman Mark Eaton to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a third round pick in the 2001 draft. Eaton, as you may recall, came up with the Flyers for a brief stint during the playoffs. The move makes more room for the Flyers long list of defenseman.

Boucher Resigned

Flyers have finally signed goaltender Brian Boucher to a two year deal worth about three million over two years. As you may remember, Boucher and Flyers GM Bob Clarke have been in a stalemate over contract negotiations for the past month, with Clarke threatening to sign the likes of Garth Snow and Sean Burke to replace him. Thankfully now all that's behind them and the Flyers can look forward to a full year with a stalwart between the pipes.

Free Agent List Moved

Well, most of the free agents have already been signed, and it's getting close to the season, so I have decided to take the free agent list off the main page, but you can still view it in the Articles section of FlyerLand. It will still be updated as the remaining free agents sign, and each signing will be listed in the sportsticker.

Expansion Continues...Sorta

FlyerLand's "Feedback" section is finally up, with the few comments that were kindly contributed by the trolls of this site. After a lack of people responding and the first attempt at the feedback section getting erased, hopefully this will be the successful batch of reader e-mails and rants. Remember you too can get published, just write in any question or comment at my email address, [email protected].

Chris Therien, Soap Star

On August 31, 2000, or next Thursday for those not good with numbers, Flyers defenseman Chris Therien will have a cameo on the afternoon soap opera, "One Life to Live". Also on the show will be Jeremy Roenick, Scott Gomez, Kevin Weekes, and Sheldon Souray. Anyone sending a pic of Therien's appearance would be greatly appreciated, so I could post it on the site. New Section Added

FlyerLand expands once again with the addition of the "Articles" section. Here I store specials or very long articles that would just be a shame to erase. You can visit the new section here. Already listed is a little special I did on the New York Rangers, the Free Agent List, and the Draft Day article.

Flyers today signed 190 lb left wing career minor leager Michel Picard for two years. He was signed as a "depth " player, expecting to add to the Phantoms scoring punch as well as be a possible candidate for the Flyers this training camp.
